Delhi municipal panels reach project approvals after extended review periods

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi standing committee approved an automated multilevel parking facility at Bharat Darshan Park in Punjabi Bagh, a new waste processing facility at Ghazipur, and road and streetlight revamps in south and west Delhi after a 2.5-year delay.

Path to the current round of clearances

These decisions followed periods when multiple public works remained on hold, with the MCD standing committee now moving forward on items that had accumulated during earlier sessions. The New Delhi Municipal Council separately cleared a Night Food Bazaar at Connaught Place and India Gate along with road resurfacing for over 80 roads at a cost of more than Rs 85 crore. Both bodies reached these points after reviewing proposals that had built up over time, including items tied to central power-reforms schemes for smart metering.

Specific projects and costs now on record

NDMC also approved redevelopment of Navyug School at Rs 11.29 crore and the creation of 346 smart classrooms across 45 schools at Rs 7.83 crore. Healthcare measures include Hospital Patient Care Allowance and conveyance allowances for doctors with retrospective effect from July 1, 2017, plus regularization of municipal quarters for spouses and wards of former employees. Further NDMC items cover procurement of 120 MW renewable energy from NHPC Ltd for 25 years, installation of more than 15,000 smart water meters at Rs 30.84 crore, and desilting of Sunehari nullah at Lodhi Road at Rs 70.44 crore.

The approvals rest on documented council minutes and standing committee records that list exact locations, costs and timelines. These records show how earlier backlogs in MCD and routine agenda items in NDMC converged into the present set of clearances.

Implementation will now depend on tender processes and coordination with the listed agencies such as NHPC Ltd for the renewable power supply and local engineering teams for the nullah desilting and parking structures.
