Delhi Opens New Sports Venues as 300 Athletes Complete SANGAM 2026
New venues in Sukhdev Vihar and Dwarka open for play while 300 athletes finish the inclusive meet and Delhi University readies inter-university squads.

The Delhi government cleared Rs 364 crore in July 2026 for an international-standard sports hostel in Pitampura and renovation of 75 CM SHRI schools, adding capacity just as several DDA complexes began operations.
These openings arrive as Delhi University colleges prepare to reserve 5% of seats under the sports quota from the 2026-27 academic session and as SANGAM 2026 concluded with around 300 student athletes from institutions across the country.
Recent inaugurations in east and southwest Delhi
Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena inaugurated the 7,552 sqm mini sports complex in Sukhdev Vihar that offers badminton, tennis, pickleball and a cricket pitch on a pay-and-play basis. The same week the DDA opened Delhi’s first Centre of Excellence in Dwarka Sector 8 with dedicated facilities for boxing, wrestling, taekwondo and weightlifting.
A rock climbing wall, the first at any DDA site, also opened at the Squash and Badminton Stadium on Siri Fort Road alongside breakdancing, parkour and aerial yoga options. The Lieutenant Governor separately directed a full revamp of the Yamuna Sports Complex in east Delhi within two months.
Larger projects and university activity
Construction has started on the 75-acre integrated sports complex in Narela that will include an 80,000-seater cricket stadium. Delhi University has restored permission for its teams to enter inter-university tournaments in 27 games, with trials scheduled to begin 7 December.
Hockey numbers have fallen at several colleges, prompting Hindu and Hansraj to drop the sport from sports-quota trials this year. The SKOAR! College Cup Delhi edition, featuring a Rs 30 lakh prize pool, is set for February 2026 at Bennett University.
