The NDMC Smart City Mission has delivered 86 of its 106 planned projects as of March 2022, placing sensor-based parking systems and smart LED street lights into operation across the 44 square kilometre New Delhi Municipal Council zone.
These changes matter now because the capital expenditure reached approximately Rs 1,897 crore, with NDMC contributing Rs 604.74 crore and the balance drawn from central schemes and public-private partnerships, allowing visible infrastructure to reach streets and public spaces used by daily commuters and families.
Lighting and Classroom Access
Smart LED street lights now illuminate roads in the NDMC area, while 444 smart classrooms operate in local schools and city-wide Wi-Fi covers selected public points. Air and noise pollution sensors mounted on transformed electric poles provide real-time readings that residents can reference before planning outdoor time, a direct result of the NDMC plan to install incident-triggered controllers by the 2019-20 target period.
Parking and Grid Projects
Sensor-based smart parking at locations including the planned multi-level facility at Khan Market guides drivers to open spots without circling blocks, while public bike sharing schemes and sewage treatment plants form part of the ongoing focus on water and power grids. These measures sit alongside the Unified Command and Control Centre that coordinates responses to traffic and utility issues.
Further work on smart water and power grids continues to link household supply monitoring with central oversight, giving NDMC households more consistent service data than before the projects began.
