Delhi Coffee Culture: Best Specialty Cafes & Third Wave Coffee Guide 2026

Delhi's coffee scene has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past decade, evolving from a city where instant coffee and milky chai dominated every cup to a city with a genuine third-wave specialty scene that is beginning to attract serious attention from the global coffee community. The catalyst has been a combination of growing disposable income among young professionals, increased travel exposure to Melbourne and Tokyo-style coffee culture, and the emergence of excellent Indian single-origin beans from the highlands of Coorg, Chikmagalur, and Araku Valley.

The anchor of Delhi's specialty scene is Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters, which opened in 2013 in Hauz Khas Village and has since expanded to multiple Delhi locations while remaining focused on direct-trade Indian single-origin beans. Their Araku Valley estate coffees — from the Eastern Ghats highlands where tribal farming communities have cultivated coffee for generations — are among the most distinctive Indian coffees available and are now exported internationally. Third Wave Coffee (a Bangalore-origin chain with strong Delhi presence) and Savorworks Roasters round out the major specialty players with quality-focused menus and comfortable spaces designed for laptop workers and casual meetings.

Delhi's cafe culture tends to be more social and less purist than Bangalore or Mumbai's scenes — the focus is as much on ambience, Wi-Fi, and food menus as on the coffee itself. The best concentrations of quality cafes are in Hauz Khas Village, Lodhi Colony, Khan Market, and Shahpur Jat — a creative colony south of the city where fashion designers and artists have colonised industrial spaces, with several excellent cafes serving as informal studios and meeting spaces. Most specialty cafes in Delhi are open daily from 8am to 10pm.
