Best Day Trips from Delhi

Delhi's location at the heart of northern India's "Golden Triangle" tourist circuit makes it one of the world's best positioned cities for culturally significant day trips. The Taj Mahal in Agra — arguably the world's most celebrated building — lies just 200km south and is reachable in under 3 hours by the Gatimaan Express high-speed train, making it the most famous day trip from any city in India.

Jaipur, the "Pink City" and capital of Rajasthan, is 280km southwest — accessible by express train in about 4.5 hours or by car in about 5 hours, making it a long but achievable day trip. The ghost city of Fatehpur Sikri, the weekend destination of Agra's Akbar-era abandoned capital, is accessible en route from Delhi. Nearer to Delhi, the ancient ruined city of Tughlaqabad and the pilgrimage town of Vrindavan (birthplace of Lord Krishna) offer spiritual and historical depth within 2 hours of the capital.
