Rishikesh Day Trip from Delhi: Yoga, Rafting, and Ganges Guide

Rishikesh sits just 240 km north of Delhi in the Himalayan foothills, where the Ganges emerges from the mountains cool and swift — making it simultaneously India's yoga capital, a major white-water rafting destination, and one of the country's most spiritually charged pilgrimage sites. A long day trip or overnight stay from Delhi is one of the most rewarding excursions available from the capital.

The Shatabdi Express from Delhi to Haridwar takes under four hours, followed by a 20-minute bus or taxi to Rishikesh. The Lakshman Jhula and Ram Jhula suspension bridges over the Ganges are the iconic images, but the real Rishikesh experience is the evening Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat — a fire ceremony of haunting beauty that hundreds attend each sunset.

White-water rafting on the 16-kilometre stretch from Shivpuri to Rishikesh runs through rapids rated up to Grade IV between September and June. Book with an accredited operator for safety, and combine the rafting with a riverside ashram yoga session for the complete Rishikesh immersion that keeps Delhiites returning every season.
